Engine
The Racing Puma is already a very good
car it has already been extremely well built.
Engine wise there is not a lot that can be done as the
Racing Puma engine (155bhp) is the same basic unit as
its smaller brother (standard 1.7 Puma 125bhp), the
only changes To the engine are:-
Tuned Exhaust System
Special induction system
Cams / Cam Timing
Revised PCM Settings
These four modifications took the 1.7
engine from 125bhp to 155bhp a total of 30bhp which
is a respectable figure for a 1.7 road engine.
More power is achievable but modifications would have
to be made internally on the engine. We can however
build an engine capable of 200+bhp but serious modifications
would be needed on engine internals to reach this power
figure.
We can offer:-
Steel Crank
Steel Rods
Re-bored and Re-Lined Block
Cylinder Head with Over Size Valves
Aluminium Light Weight Pistons
Competition Head Gasket
Throttle Bodies
Re- Programmable PCM
The above spec will produce in excess
of 200bhp and still remain reliable but would be better
suited to track day cars, for more information and prices
please contact us.
Suspension
We can offer a suspension upgrade for the Racing Puma
which consists of stiffer dampers which turns the puma
into a Track Day weapon, this kit is
an original part designed at Ford Racing in Borham and
produced by Eibach. Cost £800.00
Transmission
The standard IB5 gearbox works well on the Racing Puma
and contains modified shafts which have been shot penned
to withstand the extra load placed upon it from the
155bhp power unit. However Ford Racing did offer a Limited
Slip Differential as an Option when this car was new,
only 80 customers took advantage of this offer.
We can fit a new Racing Puma gearbox which already contains
a LSD to turn your Racing Puma into a Track Version.
Gearbox with Viscous LSD - Cost £881.25.
(Fitting is available if required).

Clutch
The Racing Puma uses a standard clutch which can slip
if used aggressively; we have changed them as low as
9,000 miles.
We are suppliers for Helix Autosport who manufacture
a motorsport type clutch for the IB5 Puma gearbox. It
has a larger diameter friction plate with organic friction
material; clamping pressure is also increased by 30%
which stops slipping and helps to obtain faster gear
changes which are made higher up the rev range. These
clutches are fully balanced unlike cheaper counterparts.
Helix Autosport Clutch - Cost £280.00
(Includes Hydraulic Thrust Bearing)

Brakes
Racing Puma uses Alcon 4 Pot Motorsport callipers with
295mm discs, as they are motorsport callipers they do
not have dirt seals which means the piston is exposed
to hot brake dust and road salt which over a period
of time causes decay on the outer face of the pistons,
which leads to sticky and seized pistons and a braking
system in a bad condition if they are feeling a little
tired they more than likely need a service.
A braking system in good condition will stop the car
quickly and efficiently time after time without the
brakes even working up a sweat, we have known these
brakes pull over 1.1 g and a standard puma with conventional
brakes will only pull 0.7g.
Calliper Service - Cost £141.00
