ST 150 2.3 Duratec Conversion
Pumabuild are the first specialist tuning company to
successfully fit a 2.3 Duratec into the Mk6 Fiesta ST150
and running it on standard engine management. We personally
like the 2.3 engine as it produces lots of torque and
if you know your stuff you will know that torque is
the turning force that and engine produces. The larger
amount of torque the faster the engine will accelerate,
the BHP the engine produces is how much work the engine
can ultimately do. To help explain this look at WRC
rally cars they have BHP limits set at a little over
300bhp but the torque the produce is close to 500lbft!
Another interesting thought to ponder
on is when you are driving your car where is your rev
counter? I bet it is between 2,000rpm and 4,500rpm 90%
of the time and 4,500rpm to 7,000rpm the remaining 10%
of the time. This means the 2.3 has lots more usable
power than the 2.0 which is also a good engine but you
have to rev it hard to 8,500rpm+ to get the power, ideal
for the track but not so good if it is a daily drive.
The 2.3 engine produces 15% more power and torque in
std form throughout the whole rev range so the is no
downside at all! If you have a 2.0 litre which is modified
then you will be able to swap them over to the 2.3 as
they are virtually identical.
The 2.3 engine just gets better and better, we can
basically can build an engine to suit your needs starting
from 160bhp / 160lbft up to 215bhp / 185lbft on std
management If you want more then you will need to run
throttle bodies and after market management such as
Pectel T2 expect 250bhp / 220lbft. If this still does
not satisfy your needs a full race engine can be built
using Cosworth parts producing 300bhp for more information

2.3 Duratec 160bhp/160lbft Stage
1
This is the entry level which runs
on low compression pistons 9.7:1 and is basically a
standard 2.3 engine which is fitted in the American
Market, This particular engine would possibly suit a
low boost turbo. Please remember if you have any other
modifications on your car such as a manifold, Exhaust
system, Cams the 160 bhp figure will increase a lot.

2.3 Duratec 170bhp/170lbft
Stage 2
As above but with Cosworth high comp pistons (11:1 or
12:1). We suggest fitting the Cosworth
pistons to raise the compression ratio so higher power
outputs can be achieved. Please remember if you have
any other modifications on your car such as a manifold,
Exhaust system, Cams the 160 bhp figure will increase
a lot.

Stage 3-6 180bhp to
300bhp
Please call for Stages 3 to 6 as they can be a little
awkward to price as it helps to know what the customer
would like from his engine.
